October is mine & Christo’s birthday month which means plenty of good meals, fine wine, days out, and ideally a little trip away. Last weekend saw most of these combined into one when we visited Huts in the Hills in Northumberland.
These are three gorgeous handcrafted huts made from reclaimed oak, and inside have been finished to a really high standard. We were staying in Hedgehope which also had an incredible outside cast iron bath to soak up all the stunning views of the surrounding Northumberland National Park.
On arrival we were welcomed with some baked goods which went down a treat later that evening. You can also opt for extras such as homemade meals for breakfast and dinner, we didn’t do this which was a shame because they all sounded so good!

For me the main attraction that set these huts out from other local ones we could have stayed at was the attention to detail and the bath. As soon as I saw it I knew we had to stay… even though Christo thought I was mad for wanting to bath outside in autumn, he soon changed his tune when we got there! We happened to stay during Storm Callum meaning it was really windy, rainy and misty, but I was so warm in the bath enjoying a glass of red wine. Oddly it was really calming to sit and watch the storm set in!
The only downside to the weather was it meant we weren’t able to see the skies clearly. This was unfortunate because the area is meant to be amazing for stargazing. However, having said that, it wasn’t the end of the world and actually it felt super cosy being out of the cold and enjoying the warmth of the wood burner.

It was so nice to enjoy a few days away from the hustle and bustle of city living and catch up on things like podcasts, reading and exploring some more of the local areas such as Alnwick which we don’t get over to that often.

Before we knew it we were packing the car up and heading back to the Toon! Nicola and her family were fantastic hosts and the whole experience was great, Christo and I both left looking at the diary for when we can find a weekend to go back! Fingers crossed it won’t be long.
