A Weekend Away – Northumberland

Last weekend we were lucky enough to join some friends in Northumberland at a holiday home they were renting located in Horsley near Heddon-on-the-Wall which is situated just a short drive from Corbridge; a charming village full of pretty buildings with Farrow and Ball painted front doors and hanging baskets, as well as incredible independent shops selling all sorts from local artists work to the best meringues I have ever tasted.

Northumberland itself is such a wonderfully unspoilt county to spend time in and rent somewhere for a week, it borders Cumbria, Durham and Tyne and Wear and really has everything you could ask for, from rolling hills, to Hadrian’s Wall and incredible coast line with sandy beaches and the odd seal in the sea! What more could you want?!

The property our friends were renting is truly stunning and has been well decorated throughout, with nice touches like a wood burner which is perfect to warm up by after a long walk as well as an Aga to help you feel like the king or queen of the beautifully designed kitchen with stylishly painted soft close drawers and cream metro tiles. There were also lots of lovely extra touches like flower jugs, pretty teapots and a bottle of wine for your first night to help you settle in – perfect!

We had a great time exploring the neighbouring countryside down towards the River Tyne admiring the local wildlife and scenery along the way and then having a big catch over a bottle of red wine. There was of course a lot of food eaten and I even had my very first cheesey crumpet – quite a revelation

If you are looking for a holiday home in Northumberland I would definitely recommend taking a look at The Granary in Horsley, the link below is to Sykes Cottages where you can book.
