Where to Buy – Tynemouth

Tynemouth is a gem on the North East coast. Its long sandy beach and an abundance of restaurants, cute cafes, and independent shops make it easy to see why it is a popular destination for both visitors and local residents. Me and the OH popped over on Saturday to make the most of what it has to offer. The handy thing about it is that it is so well connected – it only took 20 minutes from where we live near the city centre.

It was a pretty windy day but we enjoyed a walk around the Castle and Priory on Front Street soaking up the sea air, and then mooched around the shops stocking up on some delicious chocolate treats from Gareth James Chocolatier. We decided to grab a coffee and a slice of cake scrumptious red velvet cake at Dil & the Bear which I would definitely recommend if you are in the area. However, on our walk back to the car, and being the greedy pair that we are, we caved at the smell of the fish and chips outside the famous Marshall’s fish and chip shop. We took our unexpectedly large portions to the seafront and tucked in whilst overlooking the sea – don’t worry, we did go to the gym when we got home!

In the summer Tynemouth is even busier, with people enjoying the warm(ish) weather and a couple of cold beers or glasses of wine outside. My favourite place to go in the warmer months is Riley’s Fish Shack; they serve the most delicious monkfish wraps and play reggae music. For a couple of hours you can completely forget you are in the North East of England!

With all of this this in mind, along with the fact that there is a good choice of schools, it’s no wonder that Tynemouth is a popular choice with a variety of different buyers. Of course, this is with the caveat of it being a pretty pricey place to buy, compared to other local areas. Within half a mile of the town centre flats start at £100,000 (very reasonable) but stretch to whopping £575,000 for a 5 bed flat with stunning views overlooking the beach and castle. If you are looking for a family home a 3 bedroom semi will set you back between £310,000 to £410,000 whilst currently the only detached house in this search criteria is under offer at £875,000*.

If you want to snap up a property here you will have to act fast but trust me, you won’t regret it!
